SNHU publishes its FNP clinical experience as in person and requires an in-person immersion in New Hampshire. Do not build a course plan around a virtual-capable proposal unless SNHU, the course, the clinical site, and the applicable state have each given current written permission for the exact format.
Begin with SNHU's published in-person baseline
The SNHU Family Nurse Practitioner pathway publishes 750 supervised clinical hours. Official program information describes clinical experience in person, and the pathway also includes a required in-person immersion in New Hampshire. The immersion is not a substitute for the clinical placement, and neither requirement should be treated as optional based on a general description of online coursework.
SNHU does not publish a general allowance stating that a student can replace the required FNP clinical experience with a remote arrangement. It also does not publish a standard number of remotely completed activities that every FNP student can count. The safe planning assumption is a physical preceptor and clinical site unless the student receives current written permission for a specific alternative proposal.
The four non-NP MSN specializations have a 135-hour practicum. RN-to-BSN students complete a course-based field experience without one fixed published hour total for all students. Format questions must be asked for the actual program, course, state, and site rather than inferred from the FNP requirement.
Collect four written decisions before a format review
A conversation with one clinician is not enough. Ask SNHU whether the proposed activities and supervision method meet the current course objectives. Ask the physical clinical site whether its patient, privacy, technology, documentation, and supervision policies permit the format. Confirm that the applicable state permits the proposed student activity and professional supervision.
The student's state of domicile matters for FNP program availability, and the proposed clinical state can add another authorization question. If two locations are involved, identify both in the request. Do not assume that a clinician licensed in several states resolves the school's or site's requirements.
Written permission should describe the specific proposal, not a broad statement that virtual learning exists. Include the course, dates, patient setting, preceptor, student location, clinician location, supervision method, and planned activities. If any party declines or remains uncertain, continue with a physical placement plan.

The review asks whether the supplied permissions and proposed preceptor information are complete enough to consider sourcing. It is not a representation that SNHU offers a virtual pathway, and it is not a promise that any activity will count.
If written permission is incomplete, contradictory, expired, or unrelated to the exact course, we keep the request in the physical placement category. A student's urgent timeline does not change that standard.
Avoid common planning errors
Do not rely on a general program label such as online, a social media comment, another school's policy, or an older student's experience. Online coursework and physical clinical requirements can exist in the same program. Current written instructions for your own course control the planning conversation.
Do not ask a potential preceptor to promise a format before the clinical site has agreed. The preceptor may work within employer policies that govern patient contact, student access, privacy, and technology. Site participation remains necessary even when the clinician is personally interested.
Do not begin activities or count time while permission is pending. Ask SNHU what marks an authorized start and how approved work must be documented. If approval is not available, use preceptor search guidance to organize an in-person search.
