Building an SNHU clinical plan in New Hampshire

AANP classifies New Hampshire as a full practice state. An NP with the required New Hampshire authority may evaluate, diagnose, order and interpret tests, manage treatment, and prescribe within education, certification, competence, and state law without a permanent physician collaboration mandate. Students do not inherit that authority. They perform only approved activities under the preceptor, course, and facility rules.

SNHU currently accepts New Hampshire residents into the FNP track. The application asks the FNP applicant to identify one potential preceptor, so an early candidate can be valuable, but the name is not the same as final site and preceptor approval. The student must remain domiciled in an eligible state and complete the practicum in the reported state of domicile. Confirm the current admissions status and placement requirements for the term. The non-NP MSN tracks and RN-to-BSN are also available in New Hampshire, with their own supervision and site criteria.

The New Hampshire Board of Nursing, within the Office of Professional Licensure and Certification, is the official source for nursing license information. Search the candidate's legal name and verify active credential status, advanced practice role, population focus, and any public conditions. Repeat the check before submission if the record could have changed.

FNP candidates should match the family and primary care population required by the course. For the four non-NP MSN tracks, verify graduate preparation and an organizational role that supports education, quality, leadership, or population health objectives. RN-to-BSN community experience may call for a different type of supervisor. Ask SNHU which credentials and documents apply rather than assuming one preceptor profile works across every nursing track.

Manchester and Nashua offer the state's largest clinical concentration. Derry and Salem extend the southern corridor, and Concord provides hospital, public, community, and outpatient possibilities. Portsmouth, Dover, and Exeter form the Seacoast market. Lebanon and Hanover anchor the Upper Valley, while Keene, Littleton, and Berlin may be more practical for students in other regions.

The compact state can still produce difficult commutes during winter or peak traffic. Set a repeatable travel radius and give each prospect the SNHU course, patient or project focus, term dates, weekly schedule, and expected activities. Determine whether a system education office, practice manager, or department leader controls the request. New Hampshire proximity to Massachusetts, Maine, and Vermont does not remove the need for separate state and school review when a site crosses a border.

SNHU publishes a minimum of 750 total FNP clinical hours under preceptors across five courses. The university also publishes 135 practicum hours for each non-NP MSN track. RN-to-BSN includes community clinical practice experiences but has no single published fixed total for every student. SNHU does not offer a DNP. Never apply an hour figure from one track to another.

For FNP, discuss the patient population, preceptor schedule, term window, and whether the site can support one course or later courses without implying that one arrangement will cover the whole program. The published total should not be broken into contradictory per-course arithmetic. Use the FNP preceptor guide and the student's current course documents to prepare the request, then confirm the exact expectations with SNHU before shifts begin.

SNHU's FNP includes a required in-person New Hampshire immersion. That campus requirement is separate from the approved clinical hours completed at an in-person practicum location, so place both on the student's calendar. Travel to the immersion does not establish a clinical site, and attendance at a clinical site does not replace the immersion. Confirm current dates and instructions directly with SNHU.

SNHU does not publish a general telehealth allowance or a named clinical tracking system. We source physical placements and can conditionally review a virtual-capable proposal only after written permission from SNHU, the course, the site, and every relevant state. Patient location, supervision, privacy, and credit treatment must be clear before anyone relies on remote activity.
